in a random state of mind (a greek yogurt review)
yep this is the type of blog that reviews yogurt...greek yogurt to be exact (the only type that is worth mentioning). its interesting how america goes through food phases just as quickly as fashion phases...okay maybe I'm over exaggerating, but it is true that there are trends that come and go quite quickly. here are the food phases that I have witnessed in my 20 years (there are definitely many trends I missed, these just were the first to pop into my head).
1. remember how cool it was to bling out with a strawberry flavored ring pop
2. that awesome moment in elementary school when your cool classmate brought frozen otter pops to share with the class
3. you thought lunchables were so cool and would forever replace the traditional PB&J sandwich
4. that time when dippin' dots was the coolest invention ever
5. fast forward a few years and then the next thing you know you're cooling down with a tart pinkberry frozen yogurt
6. then there was the disgraceful sprinkles cupcake sensation. but actually, how can a cupcake be that good enough for you to stand in a line for hours? {token sprinkles hater right here}
7. you think you're all hipster and personally boycott starbucks and instead drink intellegentsia coffee (I'm all for this one, hand brewed coffee is so much better than machine made coffee)
8. that first spoonful of greek yogurt...you first thought it was the most disgusting thing ever, until the yogurt section of the grocery store tripled in size and yoplait was shoved into the corner
9. cutsie little, ball busting (you boys know what i mean), colorful and overly sweet macarons that we girls went crazy for (and maybe still are crazy for) over at bottega louie.
10. and last but not least the current donut craze and gourmet cookie shop phase. :)
So finally here comes the greek yogurt review. I remember the first time I took a spoonful of that thick, rotten milk tasting greek yogurt. My first time was at Starbucks, which now thinking back, I understand why I didn't like it from the very first try. A coffee chain selling yogurt? Probably not a good combo. Upon that encounter I refused to hop on the bandwagon when the greek yogurt phase came in full swing. But now when I think of yogurt, i only imagine my yogurt to be greek yogurt. I have basically tried all the brands of greek yogurt out there. Of the many, I can tell you--don't grab the Oikos brand that's always on sale. It ain't good, and tastes like yoplait. Chobani has imperialized the greek yogurt trend with its recent partner with the Olympics, and if you tell me that you love Chobani, you don't have good taste. If you're gonna reach for the popular brands then choose fage or greek gods--(not the honey flavored one). But if i were you, I would go with Voskos, a family owned company that belongs to a good friend of mine's uncle. It blends the right amount of sweetness with greek honey that actually tastes like pure honey, not like the others out there. Yet the main reason why I am in this Greek yogurt craze is because I have discovered the best quite recently. Although I have sworn by Voskos, the new brand of Greek yogurt called Muller greek corner is REALLY good. I have yet to try all the flavors but honeyed apricot is the best yet.
With all that said, I urge you to try Muller's....now. Get yo'self to the market aka grocery store.
