this state of mine(d) | melancholia

my dad has pretty great taste in music, and as a result my brother and I grew up listening to a wide array of music: from the classic oldies, baroque masterpieces and hawaiian roots, to celtic songwriters like Enya. Music is quite subjective, and even though I criticize the popular music of our generation, it always is enjoyed by someone out there in the world.
Growing up in the 90's you might think that I grew up listening to the Backstreet Boys, NSYNC, No Doubt....etc (the list goes on and on)...but if you ask me to honestly tell you who my favorite artist was as a child, my answer would be Enya. And appropriately so, I shamelessly wrote down Enya as my favorite musical artist in my 5th grade memory book, not caring at all that my peers had no idea who she was...let alone what type of music she produced: celtic | new age-  haunting bliss.

listening to her makes me melancholic. Enya's strikingly beautiful vocals and lyrics, and ethereal chants and instrumentals still give me the chills to this day...check it out & click on the link below!
(take note that her performance is live. so flawless)

Marble Halls
I dreamt I dwelt in marble halls
With vassals and serfs at my side,
And of all who assembled within those walls
That I was the hope and the pride.
I had riches all too great to count
And a high ancestral name.

But I also dreamt which pleased me most
That you loved me still the same.
