Seny i Rauxa

In preparation for my semester abroad in Barcelona this fall, the architecture school requires all 24 accepted students to take a class on global studies which emphasizes on urbanism, history and art. Although I expected this class, called 406 for short, to be "#dgafbarcelona" (yes I just made it a verb), it actually requires an uncomfortable amount of reading and physical strength to stay awake in class. Marcos, my professor, literally talks for two hours straight. LITERALLY. And today, after a grueling hour and 50 minutes, Marcos said something that truly caught my attention.

"Seny i Rauxa" (pronounced roughly as: 'Sane or Seine (like the river)- e- raucha' and of course verbally said in a lispy Catalan accent)
Basically the two words are opposites:  and while seny translates to 'being practical/sensible', rauxa on the other hand means 'wildness of spirit/foolish recklessness'.
It's kinda like an oxymoron, yet exists symbiotically.
"Seny i Rauxa" is literally the state of mind in Barcelona & the mentality of the Catalan people.

Maybe this saying pertains to a lot of people but for me this blurb kinda hits the nail on the head on how my emotions and my mentality works. I didn't think this habit of mind was actually a thing, but hey, I guess the Catalans know me more than I know myself!
