Off-beat Architecture | The Grand Budapest Hotel

The first Wes Anderson movie I saw was The Darjeeling Limited. Although the indie director has had a slew of critically acclaimed movies released beforehand, I was always interested by the movie poster of The Darjeeling Limited...namely the off-beat expressions of the three characters played by Adrien Brody, Owen Wilson, and Jason Schwartzman and the striking patterns of the encompassing background. Needless to say, I really enjoyed the movie, it's weird plot, and of course Anderson's distinctive style of camera panning. So when I saw the poster for his latest establishment, The Grand Budapest Hotel, featuring his usual slew of recurring actors, I was immediately intrigued. The movie poster depicts a large, pink European style hotel set in a totally unrealistic backdrop. It's ultra set-like and even has a working funicular used to reach the hotel! I found it very weirdly beautiful. The Grand Budapest Hotel is a quirky yet dark movie filled with precise symmetry, complementary color palettes, and complex yet shallow characters. The production design is pretty awesome... and like his other movies, the attention is all in the details! Check out the video below of The Grand Budapest Hotel being built entirely of lego bricks....completed using Rhino and maxi-cure!! (How I wish I could make my models out of legos too!)

Happy movie-ing! I'll be watching his other recent film, Moonrise Kingdom!
